Our Orlando apartments can be cool in summer when you know how to manage it. It’s simple to cut down on air conditioning and maintain comfortable temperatures indoors when you use certain techniques. Here are tips to keep your apartment home cool in summer.
INVEST IN BLACKOUT CURTAINS
Sunlight can raise the temperature in a room by several degrees. It’s strongest at midday when you aren’t home. Switch out your draperies with blackout curtains. While you’re at work, close the curtains to keep sunlight out. When you come back home, open the curtains to allow light back in. Your apartment will be nice and cool and comfortable.
DON’T TURN THE AIR CONDITIONING ALL THE WAY OFF
When you’re away at work, you might want to save money by turning your air conditioner all the way off. But when you get home from work, that will make it all the longer for the indoor temperature to reach a comfortable level. Instead, turn the thermostat so it maintains a moderately comfortable level, such as 75 degrees. That way you’ll only have to wait a few minutes after work for the air conditioning to make it very cool for yourself.
TURN OFF ELECTRONICS
If you have electronics in your home, turn them off when not in use. Electronics such as PCs emit a surprising amount of BTUs. They can heat up your apartment without you even realizing it’s happening. You’ll save energy and keep your apartment cooler by keeping them off when you’re not home or when you’re not using them.
STRATEGICALLY POSITION YOUR FAN
A fan can keep you cool if you know how to position it. On very hot days, instead of turning the fan so it’s blowing toward you, turn it so it is blowing out the window or patio. This will make hotter air exit your apartment, and keep the atmosphere inside cool and comfortable.
LEAVE DOORS AJAR
In summer, it’s best to leave interior doors ajar. This allows air to freely move around the apartment, which will make a small breeze and keep your apartment home just a tad cooler.
